An A356-T6 requirement should identify the governing material standard, heat-treatment condition and how properties will be verified. A grade name alone does not define a complete purchase specification.
Start with the designation and the standard
CEX lists A356 and A356.2 among its squeeze-casting material references. Confirm the precise designation and applicable standard in the quotation. Avoid treating similarly named alloys in different systems as interchangeable without a documented review.
Specify the finished component, not only a material label
| Requirement | What to record |
|---|---|
| Material | Exact alloy designation and governing specification |
| Condition | Required heat-treatment or temper condition and any process constraints |
| Mechanical acceptance | Required properties, test methods and minimum acceptance values |
| Specimen | Separate sample or specimen from the part, with location and orientation where relevant |
| Dimensional acceptance | Final drawing revision and the condition in which dimensions are checked |
| Records | Material identification, agreed thermal-processing records and test reports |
Why the specimen matters
A result needs enough context to connect it to the component. Ask where the specimen comes from, which material lot it represents and which test method is used. If the application requires properties from a critical section of the casting, state that requirement explicitly rather than assuming a separately prepared specimen covers it.
Plan heat treatment and machining together
Review when critical bores, sealing faces and datums are machined relative to heat treatment. Define the final dimensional inspection condition and any checks after subsequent finishing. The supplier should confirm the proposed route against both the material and geometric requirements.
Do not use a reference value as a guarantee
Published property ranges can support an initial discussion, but the order specification needs agreed limits and verification. If a part replaces a forged component, compare the full functional requirements, including component tests required by the design authority. A single material property does not establish equivalence.
Questions to resolve before ordering
Can I request a quotation while the alloy is still open?
Yes. Describe the function, loads, environment and test requirements. Ask for a material and process review and approve the resulting specification before tooling release.
What should a mechanical test report identify?
Request the material and condition, lot or sample identification, specimen information, test method, required values and actual results.
Does T6 alone define the process settings?
No. The applicable alloy and specification govern the required processing and acceptance. Agree the relevant documentation and verification for the project.

These references support further study; they do not certify a CEX component. Use the applicable project specification for acceptance.
