From cast features to finished fits
Provide the motor housing model and the assembly drawing. Mark the bearing seats, mounting datums, sealing faces and features requiring machining. Include material, finish and expected annual quantity.
Review the functional requirements
Thermal behavior, stiffness, dimensional fit and the operating environment belong in the same discussion. Confirm the alloy, process and verification plan against the finished assembly requirements.
Explore Casting HousingsCritical interfaces in a motor housing
| Interface | Drawing requirements | Review question |
|---|---|---|
| Bearing seats | Bore size, form and location relative to assembly datums | How will these relationships be machined and measured? |
| End-cover joint | Mating face, fasteners and any sealing requirement | Do dimensions apply before or after finish? |
| Mounting features | Datum scheme, bolt pattern and service loads | Which assembled features control alignment? |
| Thermal interfaces | Contact areas and treatment restrictions | What assembly condition will be used for thermal validation? |
Coordinate casting, machining and verification
Start with the finished motor assembly requirements, then review the cast shape and machining stock. Mark any regions where exposed internal discontinuities would be unacceptable. Include heat treatment and finishing in the operation sequence so final dimensions refer to a defined condition.
Make the quotation comparable
Specify whether supply includes only the housing or also inserts, covers or other agreed operations. Provide initial and annual volume, the approved drawing revision, inspection records and packaging requirements. State the customer’s sample approval steps before committing to a production schedule.
Is a motor housing automatically pressure tight?
No. Where sealing is required, define the pressure boundary, test conditions and allowable leak rate. Verify the delivered condition after relevant machining or assembly.
Can you quote from an assembly model?
An assembly model helps explain interfaces. Provide the component drawing and material requirements so manufacturing scope and acceptance are clear.
