For an automotive component, the manufacturing plan begins with its role in the assembly, drawing revision and customer approval requirements. A bracket, housing and fluid-carrying component require different validation.
Automotive casting requirements
| Application focus | Requirements to provide | Engineering review |
|---|---|---|
| Mounts and brackets | Load directions, cyclic duty, fastening interfaces and dimensional stability | Define static and durability tests with the responsible product engineer; do not substitute a material coupon result for component validation. |
| Motor and transmission housings | Bearing seats, coaxial features, mounting datums and seal interfaces | Review machining datums and the assembled fit. Specify any leak checks after machining. |
| Customer documentation | Sample approval, material records, traceability and change control | Identify the customer-required submission level and documents in the RFQ. Confirm the scope with the quotation. |
Plan around the complete assembly
For projects requiring automotive quality certification, request the current certificate for the actual supplying site and check its scope. Agree the sample submission and production release requirements before tooling starts.
Build the manufacturing route
Review die casting against the geometry and demand. Where heat treatment or internal integrity drives the decision, compare squeeze casting. Identify finished features for CNC machining and agree the final inspection condition.
Prepare an application-specific RFQ
Send the drawing and model, material specification, initial and annual quantities, and the operating requirements above. Identify open questions and distinguish mandatory acceptance criteria from preferred features. Include target sample and production dates so approval steps can be planned.
Common application questions
Are automotive approval documents included automatically?
No. State the required submission package, test evidence and customer-specific requirements so scope and responsibilities can be agreed.
Can CEX confirm suitability from a part photo?
A photo can start the conversation, but the controlled drawing, duty conditions and validation requirements are needed for a manufacturing assessment.
